Death of Accused in Salman Khan Firing Case
In a tragic turn of events, Anuj Thapan, a 32-year-old accused in the Salman Khan firing case, attempted suicide while in police custody on Wednesday. Despite being rushed to GT Hospital in Mumbai, he succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment.
Thapan's alleged role in the incident was to provide weapons to the two shooters involved in the attack outside Khan's residence in Mumbai on April 14th. The assailants had fired four rounds, but fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Following the incident, the police apprehended Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, the suspected shooters, from Bhuj, Gujarat. During interrogation, they implicated Thapan and Sonu Subhash Chander, leading to their arrest from Punjab on April 25th.
In response to the attack, the Mumbai Police invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against all apprehended individuals.
As investigations progressed, Thapan attempted to end his life in police custody, prompting his immediate transfer to GT Hospital. However, despite medical intervention, he passed away due to the severity of his injuries.
