BJP's Optimism for a Third Term

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman voiced confidence in the BJP-led NDA's triumph in the upcoming elections, asserting that the electorate desires stability and predictability in governance. In a comprehensive interview with India Today TV, Sitharaman attributed the BJP's expected victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's noteworthy initiatives during his decade-long tenure.

Groundswell of Support

The Prime Minister is poised for a comfortable return for a third term in office. We are resolute in our comeback. The prevailing sentiment on the ground suggests that people yearn for a stable and unwavering government. They have witnessed firsthand the tangible results of PM Modi's leadership over the past decade, she declared.

The public's intentions are undeniable and manifest in the remarkable voter turnout, with women and youth forming long queues to cast their ballots. Women, in particular, have enthusiastically articulated the tangible benefits they have derived from various schemes. They are not swayed by mere promises but seek the fulfillment of those promises, she emphasized.

Countering Rahul Gandhi's Allegations

Responding to Rahul Gandhi's accusations of crony capitalism against the BJP government, Sitharaman strongly refuted his claims, highlighting the Congress party's own history of such practices. His allegations appear inflammatory and intended to heighten tensions, appealing to a specific segment of voters. But let us not forget the rampant crony capitalism that characterized the Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi governments, she countered.

Rahul Gandhi's predilection for making unsubstantiated claims has been apparent since 2014-15. He ultimately had to tender an apology in the Supreme Court, she added.

Focus on Tribal Development

Sitharaman highlighted the government's efforts to uplift tribal communities. The district mineral fund, established under the Mineral Act 2015, has allocated funds to districts with significant tribal populations and mineral resources. These districts are now receiving their rightful dues, enabling the development of tribal areas. Such initiatives were absent during Congress rule, she asserted.

Addressing Modi's Remarks

Regarding the controversy surrounding PM Modi's remarks on Congress distributing wealth to those who have children and infiltrators, Sitharaman accused Congress and the INDIA bloc of engaging in appeasement politics.

Distributing resources based on religion is tantamount to polarization. When Rahul Gandhi proposes to redistribute existing resources, does the Constitution sanction such actions? she questioned.

Moreover, Lalu Yadav's advocacy for Muslim reservations stems from Congress's unwavering commitment to vote bank appeasement. Such divisive tactics fuel communal sentiments, she concluded.
