Amidst a torrential downpour that lashed the city on an early Friday morning, a significant portion of the roof at Terminal 1 of the Delhi airport collapsed, resulting in injuries to at least six individuals, according to the Delhi Fire Service.
Rescue teams immediately swung into action, rushing the injured to nearby medical facilities. Tragically, one person remains trapped beneath the debris, with search and rescue operations ongoing.
At approximately 5:30 AM, the Fire Service received an emergency call regarding the roof collapse. Four fire tenders were promptly dispatched to the scene to assist with the situation.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu expressed his concern and stated that he was closely monitoring the situation. He advised airlines to provide necessary assistance to affected passengers at Terminal 1, while highlighting that evacuation efforts and rescue operations were underway.
Heavy rainfall severely impacted several localities in and around Delhi, leading to extensive flooding. Vehicles were partially submerged in rainwater, hindering the movement of individuals through inundated roads.
As per data recorded up to 5:30 AM, Safdarjung received a total of 153.7 mm of rainfall, while Palam airport experienced 93 mm. The relentless downpour has necessitated the deployment of rescue teams to assist stranded individuals and respond to flooded areas throughout the city.
