Incessant Rainfall Claims Lives in Delhi
Torrential rains battered the capital city of Delhi, causing severe flooding and leading to the tragic deaths of six individuals, including an elderly man, a youth, and four children.
Digvijay Kumar Chaudhary, a 60-year-old resident of Jaitpur, fell victim to the relentless downpour when his TVS Scooty plunged into a flooded underpass in Okhla, which remained submerged for over 24 hours. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
In another heart-wrenching incident, two boys perished in the waterlogged underpass near Siraspur metro station in outer north Delhi's Samaypur Badli area. Their bodies were recovered after an extensive search operation conducted by the police and fire brigade. Preliminary investigations suggest the boys may have drowned while attempting to bathe.
Tragedy struck again in northeast Delhi, where two boys, aged 8 and 10, lost their lives while playing in a rainwater-filled ditch near Pusta No. 5 in the New Usmanpur area. Police personnel rescued the boys but were unable to revive them at the hospital.
The monsoon's fury claimed yet another victim in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area, where a man in his late 20s drowned in a flooded underpass. The deceased, believed to be a part-time laborer at Azadpur Mandi, remains unidentified.
The relentless rainfall, the highest single-day amount recorded in June for the past 88 years, submerged streets and stranded commuters on roads, causing widespread disruption. The incessant downpour has left a trail of devastation and heartbreak in its wake.
