In a horrific incident, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu president Armstrong was brutally murdered on Friday, July 5, 2024, by six unidentified assailants in Chennai's Perambur area.

According to initial reports, the assailants, who arrived on motorcycles, attacked Armstrong with knives, fatally injuring him on the road. The motive behind the murder remains unknown. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Sembium police jurisdiction.

An intense search operation is underway to apprehend the suspects. Armstrong was rushed to a private hospital in the city after the attack, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was later shifted to Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Armstrong, a former Chennai Corporation councillor, was residing in Perambur at the time of his murder. Police sources revealed that he was overseeing the construction of a new house when he was attacked by the six unknown individuals. Notably, four of the assailants were disguised as food delivery agents.

Investigators have collected CCTV footage from nearby cameras to assist in the identification and apprehension of the suspects.

Reacting to the murder, BJP Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai expressed shock and condemned the incident, criticizing the MK Stalin-led DMK government for the rising violence in the state. He called into question the Chief Minister's ability to continue in his role under the current circumstances.

The AIADMK also denounced the government's failure to maintain law and order, highlighting the murder of a national party's state president as a testament to the deteriorating situation. AIADMK leader Palaniswami urged the government to ensure a peaceful funeral for Armstrong and called for accountability.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the political and social fabric of Tamil Nadu, raising concerns about the escalating violence and the government's ability to protect its citizens.
