BSP Chief Mayawati Demands CBI Probe into Tamil Nadu Party Head's Murder, Questions Law and Order
In a scathing critique of the Tamil Nadu government's handling of the murder of its state party chief, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has accused the authorities of apathy and negligence. K. Armstrong, the slain leader, was brutally hacked to death near his residence on July 5, leaving the BSP and the Dalit community shaken.
Expressing her deep shock and anger during a visit to Chennai to pay her last respects to Armstrong, Mayawati questioned the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The gruesome manner of Armstrong's murder suggests a complete breakdown of law and order in Tamil Nadu, she asserted. The primary suspects remain at large, raising serious doubts about the government's commitment to justice.
Mayawati's suspicions extend to the state government's motives, as she alleges a lack of seriousness in pursuing the investigation. If the government were genuinely interested in finding the culprits, they would have taken swift and decisive action, ensuring that the criminals are apprehended and held accountable, she stated. Their failure to do so raises the disturbing possibility that they are complicit in this heinous crime.
She urged the government to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing their expertise and impartiality as crucial factors in unraveling the truth. We demand a thorough and impartial CBI investigation, Mayawati declared. If the state government hesitates to refer the case to the CBI, it will only reinforce suspicions of their involvement in this gruesome act.
Beyond Armstrong's untimely demise, Mayawati expressed profound concern for the safety and wellbeing of the entire Dalit community in Tamil Nadu. This is not merely a case of an isolated murder, she emphasized. The Dalit community as a whole faces threats and intimidation, with many of its leaders living in fear for their lives.
Mayawati cautioned the BSP cadre against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the need for adherence to legal processes. While we demand justice for Armstrong and all those who suffer from injustice, we must remain within the bounds of the law, she advised. The weaker sections of society should not resort to violence or vigilantism.
