In the early hours of Sunday, a tragic incident occurred in Mumbai's Worli district, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to her husband. The victims, Pradip Nakhaw and his wife Kaveri Nakawa, were residents of Koliwada in Worli. They had just returned from Sassoon Dock after purchasing fish when their scooter was rammed by a BMW car near Atria Mall at approximately 5.30 am. The impact of the collision, which occurred from behind, caused severe injuries to the couple. Kaveri Nakawa succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while her husband remains hospitalized.
Initial investigations indicate that the BMW car was being driven by Mihir Shah, the 24-year-old son of Rajesh Shah, a senior leader of the Shiv Sena political party. Mihir Shah has been charged with fleeing the scene of the accident and is currently absconding from the authorities. The police have detained Mihir Shah's father, Rajesh Shah, and his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, who was also present in the car at the time of the incident. The BMW involved in the accident was registered in Rajesh Shah's name.
The Mumbai Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend Mihir Shah, who remains at large. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who heads the Shiv Sena, has expressed his deep regret over the incident and promised an impartial investigation. The hit-and-run incident that happened in Mumbai is unfortunate. I have spoken to the police, and strict action will be taken as per the law. Everyone will be treated equally, the Chief Minister told the media.
Aditya Thackeray, the leader of the rival Shiv Sena (UBT) faction, visited the Worli police station and met with the victim's husband. He demanded the swift arrest of the accused and urged the authorities to rise above political considerations in pursuing justice for the victims. I hope the police will act swiftly to catch the accused and bring him to justice. Hopefully there will be no political refuge by the regime, he stated.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such tragedies. The Mumbai Police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of Mihir Shah. The investigation into the case continues.
