Aavesham Faces Drop in Fourth Weekend Amidst Competition and Digital Release Rumors

Aavesham has encountered a significant decline in its box office earnings during its fourth weekend, with a notable drop of 50% compared to the previous week. The slump was particularly pronounced in Kerala, where collections dipped by 55%. This downturn can be attributed to increased competition from newer releases and the persistent rumors of the film's imminent digital release on May 9th.

The lack of an official announcement regarding the digital release has left audiences uncertain, but if the rumors prove to be accurate, it could effectively mark the end of Aavesham's theatrical run in Kerala by the end of this week. Such a premature end would be regrettable, given the film's promising performance in its initial weeks.

Aavesham's strong hold on the Kerala box office suggested the possibility of surpassing the Rs. 80 crore mark, potentially even reaching Rs. 85 crore. However, the fourth weekend's drop has made this target more challenging, with the film currently falling Rs. 9 crore short of the Rs. 80 crore milestone.

If the digital release materializes on May 9th, Aavesham's box office earnings could fall short of Rs. 75 crore. This outcome highlights the potential drawbacks of a four-week OTT window in a state like Kerala, where films typically enjoy extended theatrical runs.

Earlier this year, Manjummel Boys and Premalu benefited from delayed digital releases, enabling them to prolong their box office success. Premalu amassed close to Rs. 40 crore after its fourth week, while Manjummel Boys grossed Rs. 33 crore, including revenue from their Telugu-dubbed versions. Achieving such milestones would have been more difficult with an early digital release.
