Kamal Haasan Unveils Secrets of Iconic Appu Raja
Legendary actor Kamal Haasan is preparing for the release of his highly anticipated film, Indian 2. During an exclusive Pinkvilla Masterclass, Haasan shared intriguing insights from his iconic movie, Appu Raja.
Despite its technological advancements, the film's making video remains unavailable. Haasan lamented, We realized we owe it to cinema students to showcase how we crafted the film, simplifying the intricate process.
He discussed his dwarf portrayal, explaining, We implemented various methods to diminish my stature but altered the sequence. Director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, who remains sharp at 94, employed both mechanical and in-camera effects to create the character's appearance.
VFX was absent at the time, prompting the crew to explore creative alternatives. We considered making him ride a motorcycle but abandoned the idea due to safety and budget constraints, Haasan added.
About Appu Raja
Originally titled Apoorva Sagodharargal, Appu Raja is a 1989 revenge saga. Haasan plays dual roles as twin brothers separated at birth, one a dwarf. Upon discovering their father's murder, the dwarf brother seeks vengeance, with suspicion falling on his unwitting sibling.
Singeetam Srinivasa Rao directed the film, which featured a stellar cast. Haasan and Crazy Mohan collaborated on the screenplay, while Jaishankar, Nagesh, Gautami, and others joined the ensemble.
The film debuted at the International Film Festival of India and enjoyed a successful theatrical run of 200 days.
