Rupali Ganguly's Superwoman Mother: A Tale of Perseverance and Unwavering Support
In the tapestry of Rupali Ganguly's life, her mother, Rajani Ganguly, stands as a luminous figure, a beacon of strength and inspiration. It was after crossing the threshold of the 10th standard that Rupali truly recognized the indomitable spirit within her mother.
Rajani, a woman of humble beginnings, had always yearned to complete her education. However, the constraints of her circumstances had forced her to set aside her dreams. But as she watched her daughter embark on her academic journey, a flicker of hope reignited within her.
With unwavering determination, Rajani resolved to fulfill her long-held aspiration. She enrolled in a graduation program, diligently balancing her studies with her responsibilities as a mother. Rupali witnessed her mother's unwavering resolve with a newfound admiration.
That made me see my mum in a completely different light, Rupali recounted, her voice filled with pride. And I felt so proud of her.
Rajani's pursuit of knowledge extended beyond the classroom. She harbored a secret passion for the world of entertainment, having once worked alongside the renowned choreographer Saroj Khan.
Saroj used to work with Sohanlal (choreographer) master, and I, too, was there, Rajani recalled. I would just watch her dance and she'd often ask me to join.
Rajani's talent and dedication caught Saroj's attention, who invited her to collaborate on several choreographic projects. She graced the silver screen in Aruna Irani's iconic song Ae Phansa from the Bollywood classic Bobby (1973).
Despite her brief dalliance with showbiz, Rajani chose to prioritize her family, becoming a devoted homemaker. Yet, her unfulfilled dreams found solace in the accomplishments of her children—Rupali, an acclaimed actress, and Vijay, a renowned choreographer.
I had a dream to reach a point in my life, but I couldn't fulfill that, Rajani reflected. But both my kids fulfilled that for me.
Rajani credits Rupali's resilience and unwavering determination for shaping her into the woman she is today.
Rupali never let us feel her struggles, Rajani said. I used to feel bad that she did such amazing work in shows like 'Sanjivani,' 'Parvarish,' and 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai,' still she never got an award. But today, every award is hers to take.
Rupali has inherited not only her mother's strength but also her eloquence.
Main bak bak bahut karti hun, aur Rupali bhi, Rajani quipped, referring to their shared loquacious nature. I even asked my son-in-law once if there is someone writing all these great things she says, but he told me it's all her.
Rupali echoed her mother's sentiments, acknowledging the profound influence Rajani has had on her.
My mom is a brilliant orator, she can give speeches effortlessly, Rupali said. She'd go out and give speeches on women empowerment and a lot of it I imbibed in my character in 'Anupamaa' too.
Rajani's unwavering belief in the power of human connection is a legacy she has passed on to Rupali.
Mummy has this rule that whoever comes to our house can never go hungry and she never discriminates between people, Rupali said. She always gives out love and that's what even I try to imbibe from her.
In Rajani Ganguly, Rupali has found not only a mother but a role model, a source of unwavering support, and an inspiration to live a life filled with purpose and passion.
