Richa Chadha's portrayal of Lajwanti in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed web series, Heeramandi, has garnered significant acclaim. However, this portrayal came with its challenges, including a particularly difficult drunk dancing scene.
Chadha recently disclosed her experience with the scene, revealing that despite numerous takes, she sought solace in alcohol. However, this attempt proved detrimental, exacerbating the situation.
In an interview with Zoom, Chadha recounted her struggle to capture the essence of a drunken dance, despite several attempts. As a result, she decided to consume a quarter of alcohol, hoping to enhance her performance. Unfortunately, the result was counterproductive.
Chadha explained that alcohol dulled her body movements, compromising the precision and grace she sought to maintain. She realized that she performed better without its influence, as it allowed her greater control over her movements.
Despite the challenges, Chadha approached the scene with unwavering dedication, striving to convey authenticity and nuance in her portrayal. Even during the dance, she remained fully immersed in the character of Lajwanti.
Heeramandi delves into the captivating world of courtesans, set against the backdrop of pre-Independence India. Its release on Netflix on May 1 featured an ensemble cast, including notable actresses such as Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Sharmin Segal.
