Tamil film Star has made a promising debut at the Indian box office, garnering a notable Rs. 11.75 crore in its first three days.
The film's stellar performance has been primarily driven by its home state, Tamil Nadu, which accounted for a significant Rs. 10.25 crore of the total gross. Bengaluru emerged as the second-best contributor, indicating the film's appeal beyond Tamil Nadu.
Star enjoyed a strong start on Friday, grossing Rs. 3.20 crore, with Rs. 2.75 crore coming from Tamil Nadu alone. This opening day figure surpassed the debut film of lead actor Kavin Raj, Dada, which had opened to less than Rs. 90 lakhs last year.
The film witnessed a substantial 30% growth on Saturday, demonstrating its sustained appeal. However, it faced a setback on Sunday, possibly due to its limited reach outside major centers, which typically drive most of the growth on Sundays. This flat performance on Sunday has made the film's trajectory less certain, with its success hinging on its performance in the coming days and its ability to maintain its momentum.
Despite the Sunday slowdown, Star's success has provided a much-needed boost to the Tamil film industry, which had endured a dismal first quarter at the box office. The recent resurgence, with films like Ghilli (re-release) and Aranmanai 4 achieving commercial success, indicates a promising turnaround for Tamil cinema.
Star's success is particularly noteworthy given the upcoming slate of highly anticipated releases in the coming months, including GOAT, Indian 2, Vetaiyan, and Kanguva. These upcoming films are expected to further invigorate the Tamil film industry and offer audiences a diverse range of cinematic experiences.
