During a recent appearance on the Today show, Ryan Reynolds engaged in a playful exchange with hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie regarding the name of his fourth child. The inquiry stemmed from Taylor Swift's penchant for incorporating the names of Reynolds' and his wife Blake Lively's children into her song lyrics.
The only way this is going to make more news is if you tell us the name of your fourth child, teased Guthrie. Which I know you won't do, but Taylor Swift keeps dropping it into lyrics!
Reynolds deftly sidestepped the direct question with a witty response: We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child's name is. And I'll say this: We're still waiting.
He further acknowledged Swift's prolific songwriting capabilities, describing her as a lazy writer – a term he used ironically to highlight her impressive output.
Swift has previously used the names of Reynolds and Lively's children – James (9), Inez (7), and Betty (4) – in her songs. Betty, a track from her 2020 album Folklore, features all three children's names. James' voice is also featured in Gorgeous, a song from Swift's 2017 album Reputation.
Reynolds and Lively have expressed their trust in Swift's discretion regarding the use of their children's names. In a 2021 interview with SiriusXM, Reynolds stated, We trust her implicitly. She's very sensitive to any of that stuff. He emphasized that the songs do not have any specific connection to the children beyond the use of their names, adding that it was an honor for Swift to include them.
