Aishwarya Rai's Cannes Debut Met with Fan Disappointment and Subsequent Recognition

The prestigious Festival de Cannes commenced with great fanfare, welcoming Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to its hallowed red carpet for the premiere of Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis. Despite an injury, Rai commanded attention in a stunning gown by Falguni Shane Peacock.

However, an Instagram post by the festival's official account ignited a stir among Rai's ardent followers. The post, featuring a slideshow of attendees, notably omitted Rai's name and tag, drawing criticism from her loyal fanbase.

Omission of Aishwarya Rai from the caption is unacceptable, lamented one fan. Why not acknowledge her presence? asked another. Questions of racial bias permeated the comments section, with many expressing dismay that an actress with Rai's tenure at Cannes could be overlooked.

Responding to the backlash, the festival swiftly edited the post, adding Rai's name. The veteran actress has consistently graced Cannes red carpets, and her latest appearance was no exception.

Rai was joined by her daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, and several Indian stars were also present at the festival, including Aditi Rao Hydari and Sobhita Dhulipala. The festival, which commenced on May 14, is set to conclude on May 25.
