Sweltering Heat No Match for Aahana S Kumra's Culinary and Retail Adventure in Lucknow
Despite the oppressive heat, Bollywood actress Aahana S Kumra embarked on an epicurean and shopping expedition during her recent sojourn to her hometown, Lucknow. Donning the mantle of a poet, she effusively exclaimed, Behold the grandeur of the Nawabs. Witness the essence of Lucknow. This is the refrain of every poet's song. Lucknow is not merely a city, but a cherished fragment of my heart.
The Rangbaaz (2018) star reveled in her time in the city, exploring its culinary and cultural delights. I indulged in every pleasure this time around, she enthused. Though I was unable to visit my alma mater, La Martiniere College, and the heritage-rich Old City area due to the ongoing renovation of Rumi Darwaza, I made sure to savor every other aspect of Lucknow.
A Culinary Odyssey: From Iconic Chaat to Succulent Kebabs
Kumra's gastronomic journey was a whirlwind of flavors, encompassing the city's signature street food, kebabs, and sweet treats. I partook in Sharmaji ki Chai, Jain ki chaat, and ventured to Aminabad, where I relished kebabs at Tundey's alongside the delectable ulte tawe ke parathe and aromatic biryani, she detailed. These culinary experiences are an absolute must for any Lucknow visit. I also savored the fresh fruit sold along the roadsides, which offer a burst of flavors unmatched by anything available in Mumbai.
Chaat and Ganjing: An Indispensable Lucknow Tradition
A visit to Lucknow would be incomplete without indulging in the local chaat and ganjing, Kumra asserted. I made my way to the renowned Royal Cafe, where I had the pleasure of meeting 'chaat king' Hardayal Maurya and sampling his special mixed chaat. I recall our younger days, when we would frequent Ganj for shopping and invariably end our evening with a delightful chaat that often served as our dinner. Mumbai may offer a semblance of this matar bhari aloo-tikki chaat, but the taste is simply incomparable.
Chikankari Shopping: A Lucknow Specialty
I indulged in some retail therapy in Chowk and Hazratganj, Kumra shared. It seems that whenever I plan a visit to Lucknow, word quickly spreads, and I am met with a barrage of requests. While I primarily purchase one or two kurtis for myself, the majority of my purchases are made to fulfill the demands of others. Lucknow's chikankari dresses are perfect for the myriad festivals celebrated in Mumbai. My wardrobe is replete with these exquisite pieces, and I have always cherished wearing salwar kameez since childhood. They exude a sense of coolness, lightness, and timeless elegance, she concluded.
A Tapestry of Flavors and Tradition
Aahana S Kumra's culinary and shopping extravaganza in Lucknow was a testament to the city's enduring charm and vibrant culinary scene. From the tantalizing chaat to the delectable kebabs and the intricate chikankari work, Lucknow continues to captivate hearts and palates alike.
