Tamil film Maharaja, starring Vijay Sethupathi, has maintained its strong momentum at the box office. In its second weekend, it garnered an impressive Rs. 18.75 crore in India, bringing its domestic total to approximately Rs. 65 crore. The film has also performed well overseas, grossing Rs. 23 crore (USD 2.80 million), resulting in a global tally of Rs. 88 crore. It is poised to surpass the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark globally in the upcoming weekdays.
Maharaja has set a new record for Vijay Sethupathi as his highest-grossing film. Notably, it is on the verge of becoming his first film to cross Rs. 100 crore at the box office. The film's hold in the second weekend has been remarkable across all regions. In Kerala, it witnessed an increase in collections, while Tamil Nadu experienced a moderate drop of only 30%, amassing nearly Rs. 10.50 crore. The ten-day total in Tamil Nadu now stands at Rs. 37 crore, and it is expected to gross over Rs. 50 crore in the state.
The Telugu dubbed version of Maharaja has performed exceptionally well, collecting more than Rs. 15 crore in the Telugu states. It had a robust second weekend, grossing Rs. 4.50 crore, a mere 30% decline from the first weekend. The film could have potentially grossed around Rs. 25 crore in the region, but its run will be shortened by the release of Kalki 2898 AD on Thursday, which is expected to dominate theater bookings.
