Unmoved by the romantic connection between her ex-boyfriend, rapper YG, and singer Saweetie, Kehlani maintains an unruffled demeanor due to her lesbian orientation.

Five years after the dissolution of their relationship, Kehlani, known for her hit song Get Away, addressed the topic of YG's current romance with Saweetie. During an interview on Nessa On Air while promoting her new album CRASH, Kehlani delivered a thoughtful response.

When asked about Saweetie's comment on a photo of Kehlani shortly after her split from YG, Kehlani acknowledged her sexuality as a lesbian and affirmed her lack of concern for her ex-boyfriend's romantic pursuits. Having previously disclosed her lesbian identity in a humorous TikTok video and updated her Twitter bio to indicate her use of both she/her and they/them pronouns, Kehlani elaborated on her perspective.

Why would I care about my male [exes]? Kehlani inquired, expressing her indifference towards the actions of her former partners, regardless of their gender. I also don't care what any of my exes are doing. Male, female, anything.

The 29-year-old artist emphasized the importance of seeking happiness in relationships, regardless of one's gender. If a relationship no longer fulfills both partners, she believes it's healthier to part ways and pursue fulfillment elsewhere.

Even when I'm with someone, if we decide that we're not mutually happy, we really shouldn't be together and we should go be with people who make us happy, Kehlani asserted.

Regarding the pairing of YG and Saweetie, Kehlani expressed her positive sentiments and extended her blessings to the couple. They make so much sense, she remarked. Knowing them both, I'm like 'You know what?' I really like this.'

Kehlani and Saweetie have collaborated on the remix of Icy Grl, solidifying their friendship over time. Kehlani shared her admiration for the new couple, saying, They make so much sense. Knowing them both, I'm like 'You know what?' I really like this.'

The romantic connection between YG and Saweetie, which initially sparked dating rumors in the spring of 2023, has been characterized by periods of separation and reunion. After initially being spotted kissing on vacation and attending various events together, they briefly split in January 2024 but reconciled by March.

Following a nearly three-year relationship with rapper Quavo, Saweetie embarked on her relationship with YG. Kehlani and YG's own romantic involvement spanned from late 2019 to early 2020, with allegations of infidelity during their ten-month courtship surfacing later in Kehlani's music.

Despite rekindling their romance and releasing a joint track titled Konclusions on Valentine's Day 2020, their breakup was confirmed five days later. Kehlani subsequently revealed the details in her surprise release, Valentine's Day (Shameful). A year later, she publicly acknowledged her queer identity on social media.

Kehlani's latest studio album, CRASH, her fourth, is now available across all streaming platforms.
