Juhi Babbar Sonii's Theatrical Triumph: 100th Show of 'With Love, Aap Ki Saiyaara'

Juhi Babbar Sonii, a renowned actor and playwright, is set to grace the stage for the 100th performance of her critically acclaimed play, 'With Love, Aap Ki Saiyaara.' This milestone marks an unprecedented achievement for a Hindi play, having captivated audiences in over 35 cities and five international venues over the past 30 months.

Sonii's excitement is palpable as she anticipates the momentous occasion. It's a fantastic feeling, she exclaims. The love and appreciation we've received from people is beyond imagination. We've broken records, and I'm thrilled to perform the 100th show.

To commemorate this remarkable accomplishment, Sonii has meticulously planned a special performance. I've invited 100 women achievers, she reveals. It's a wonderful group, representing diverse fields such as acting, directing, music, dance, culinary arts, politics, banking, and even aviation. Their presence will undoubtedly enhance the play's impact.

Following the performance, Sonii and her team will gather for a modest celebration to mark the occasion. Theatre is often underrated, Sonii laments. Those of us who have the privilege of connecting with audiences on such an intimate level should amplify our voices and showcase the transformative power of live theatre.

'With Love, Aap Ki Saiyaara' delves into the multifaceted identities of contemporary Indian women. It's a must-watch for both men and women, Sonii emphasizes. It explores women's empowerment and confronts the challenges they face in society, including sexual harassment and societal constraints. The play doesn't vilify men; instead, it highlights the societal norms that perpetuate these issues. It asks tough questions and encourages dialogue through the lens of entertainment.

The play's genesis lies in a character conceived by Nadira Zaheer Babbar, Sonii's mother-in-law. Sonii herself took on the multifaceted roles of writer, director, and performer for this groundbreaking production. The writing is the foundation of the play, Sonii explains. As the director, my task was simplified by the clarity and precision of the script. I had a clear understanding of the messages I wanted to convey, which made the acting process almost effortless. The writer and director in me had already charted the course for me as an actor.

Sonii attributes the play's remarkable success to its ability to resonate with audiences on a profound level. Every performance has led to another, she says. People have approached us after shows, eager to host it in their cities. That's the true success we've experienced over the past 30 months.

The play's impact extended beyond the traditional stage during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, we never intended to present the play online, Sonii recalls. However, due to the pandemic, we partnered with Mumbai Theatre Guide to offer a virtual version. It was a resounding success, and when live performances resumed, the play continued to thrive both online and offline.

As Sonii prepares for the 100th performance of 'With Love, Aap Ki Saiyaara,' she reflects on the transformative journey that has unfolded. This play has been a labor of love, she says. It has challenged societal norms, empowered women, and encouraged dialogue about critical issues. I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to use my voice and my platform to make a difference.

The upcoming 100th show promises to be a culmination of Sonii's artistic vision and the unwavering support she has received from audiences across the country and beyond. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of theatre to entertain, provoke thought, and inspire positive change in society.
