Kalki 2898 AD: A Stellar Opening at the Domestic and International Box Office
Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD has made an extraordinary debut at the Indian box office, amassing an all-India gross collection of approximately Rs 110 crore, according to early estimates. This impressive opening places it as the fourth-highest opener of all time in India.
Leading the charge are the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which contributed a hefty Rs 62 crore to the first-day tally. The North Indian market also made a significant contribution of Rs 27 crore to the total. Other markets like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala also witnessed a strong opening, accounting for Rs 10.50 crore, Rs 5.50 crore, and Rs 2.75 crore, respectively.
Prabhas, the film's lead actor, now has two films on the list of top five openers in India, highlighting his immense popularity. Kalki 2898 AD is his second-highest opener after SS Rajamouli's Bahubali: The Conclusion.
The film's domestic success was also accompanied by a strong international debut. Markets like the USA and Germany saw record-breaking box office numbers, contributing an estimated USD 7 million (INR 60 crore) to the global opening day total, which reached an impressive Rs 170 crore mark.
Early estimates suggest that the all-India net for Kalki 2898 AD is likely to hover around Rs 100 crore. However, these estimates may be adjusted in the morning based on the performance of the film in mass belts, particularly during evening and night shows, which were affected by the India vs England World Cup semi-final. If not for the match, the film's overall collections could have potentially been higher by about Rs 5 crore, bringing the global opening day total closer to Rs 175 crore.
Note that these are estimates and the actual figures will be officially released in the morning.
