Playback legend Abhijeet Bhattacharya, in a recent interview, unveiled a captivating narrative behind the recording of Shah Rukh Khan's iconic anthem, I Am The Best, from the film Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.
Initially, the team, including lyricist Javed Akhtar and music composers Jatin-Lalit, grappled with decisions regarding the use of vocals in the song's final segment. Bhattacharya's suggestion to enlist Khan's voice prompted the team to contact him.
Upon arriving at the studio within an hour, Khan initially hesitated to contribute vocally. He declared his lack of singing ability, stating, I don't sing. I don't know how to sing. I don't want to sing.
Bhattacharya persisted, emphasizing the necessity of Khan's involvement in the song's climax. Khan eventually relented, declaring, I will do better than you.
Bhattacharya revealed his innovative approach to the track, seamlessly weaving two vocal characters without pausing for breath. The song's chorus, initially met with skepticism, was retained at the behest of Akhtar.
Bhattacharya's unparalleled vocal prowess shines in this timeless anthem, solidifying his status as one of India's most acclaimed playback singers. His versatility extends to a vast repertoire, including beloved classics like Chaand Taare, Tauba Tumhare Yeh Ishare, and Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main.
