The Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, has performed exceptionally well at the box office during its extended opening weekend.
Commencing at Rs 21.00 crore on Thursday, the film gathered momentum, reaching Rs 22.00 crore on Friday and Rs 25.50 crore on Saturday. Its performance peaked on Sunday with estimates between Rs 39.00 and 40.00 crore, accumulating to a four-day total of approximately Rs 108 crore.
This equates to a remarkable entry into the prestigious Rs 100 crore club within only four days. It also marks the sixth time a Prabhas-starrer film has achieved this milestone in Hindi, following Bahubali, Bahubali 2, Saaho, Adipurush, and Salaar.
Since 2015, all of Prabhas' Hindi films, excluding Radhe Shyam, have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, firmly establishing him as a highly reliable star in the Hindi market.
Sunday saw a strong performance for Kalki 2898 AD, with national chains grossing approximately Rs 20 crore and contributing about 45% to the overall earnings. The film enjoyed strong demand, leading to capacity issues and overflow audience support expected on Monday, indicating a positive outlook.
The four-day trend has set the stage for a promising theatrical run, with a CLEAN HIT status likely. The hold on Monday will further solidify this verdict.
Despite being a science fiction film, Kalki 2898 AD has benefited from its Mahabharata connections and the star power of Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan, gaining traction among a broader audience.
The Hindi version aims to reach the Rs 200 crore mark by the end of its second week and possibly complete its run in the vicinity of Rs 250 crore. While it's too soon to make concrete predictions, the current trend suggests a sustained and successful box office performance.
Globally, Kalki 2898 AD has raked in over Rs 460 crore during its four-day weekend, setting it on track for significant global box office success. It has the potential to emerge as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
