Kalki 2898 AD Earns Over Rs. 415 Crore at the Indian Box Office
Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, has crossed the Rs. 400 crore mark at the Indian box office within its first six days, becoming the fourth-fastest film to achieve this milestone alongside Jawan. By the end of its extended eight-day first week, the movie is projected to reach around Rs. 465 crore.
The film witnessed a 20% drop in earnings on Tuesday from Monday, which is a standard decline at its current collection levels. Such drops are often attributed to the diminishing spillover demand from the weekend. Despite Tuesday's decline, Kalki has maintained a strong hold in the North Indian and Telugu states.
On Tuesday, the film grossed Rs. 14.75 crore in North India and Rs. 12.75 crore in the Telugu states. While North India initially appeared to be outpacing Telugu states, the latter has managed to close the gap during the past two weekdays. However, North India is still expected to surpass Telugu states in total earnings, although the margin may not be significant.
Kalki holds the distinction of being the most expensive Indian film ever produced, with production costs exceeding Rs. 650 crore. Initially, the film's recovery seemed uncertain due to negative reactions to its trailers and a less-than-stellar first day performance in Telugu states. However, its fortunes have since improved significantly, with a significant surge in earnings on Sunday and stable weekday collections. These factors have ensured the film's recovery and the likelihood of a reasonable profit.
