'Following directions from a Delhi court, a specially convened five-member medical board has instructed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to maintain his current insulin dosage of two units while incarcerated. The board, comprising renowned AIIMS physicians and Tihar Jail medical personnel, convened a virtual meeting on Saturday to assess Kejriwal's health status.
During the comprehensive review, the medical experts concluded that Kejriwal exhibited no significant health concerns and was in a stable condition. Consequently, they recommended continuing the existing medication regimen, including insulin administration. This decision aligns with the earlier precautionary measure taken by Tihar Jail authorities to administer insulin after Kejriwal's blood sugar levels elevated to 320.
Meanwhile, the court declined Kejriwal's request for daily video consultations with his personal physician. However, it mandated the formation of a medical board to evaluate the necessity of insulin therapy for Kejriwal, who has Type 2 diabetes. Additionally, the court permitted home-cooked meals while emphasizing strict adherence to the diet prescribed by Kejriwal's physician.
This directive stemmed from allegations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal was intentionally consuming mangoes, aloo puri, and sweets to elevate his blood sugar levels and potentially secure medical bail. Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) countered these claims, alleging a sinister plot to eliminate Kejriwal by denying him essential diabetes medication and insulin.
Kejriwal's arrest on March 21 by the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy led to his incarceration in Tihar Jail on April 1. Since then, his health condition has been subject to intense scrutiny and debate, with both sides presenting conflicting narratives.
The latest medical assessment by the court-appointed board provides a more objective and nuanced understanding of Kejriwal's health status. It underscores the need for continued monitoring and appropriate medical care while dispelling unfounded rumors and allegations. The ongoing legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the case against Kejriwal, while the medical board will continue to oversee his health and well-being during his incarceration.'
