Mihir Shah's Arrest in the Worli Hit-and-Run Case
On Tuesday, Mihir Shah, the prime suspect in the Worli hit-and-run case, was apprehended. He had been at large since July 7th, when his BMW allegedly struck a scooter, resulting in the death of a woman.
Mihir Shah, age 24, is the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena leader aligned with Eknath Shinde's faction. Rajesh Shah was initially detained by Worli police but later released on bail on Monday.
On the morning of July 7th, a BMW collided with a couple riding a scooter on Annie Besant Road in Worli. The incident claimed the life of Kaveri Nakhwa, while her husband, Pradip, sustained injuries.
Allegations suggest that Mihir Shah was operating the BMW, accompanied by his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, in the front passenger seat. The damaged vehicle was later discovered abandoned in Kala Nagar, Bandra East.
Mihir Shah now faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving endangering human life, endangering life and personal safety, and committing mischief causing loss and damage. Additionally, he is charged under several sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Investigations revealed that Rajesh Shah contacted his son after the incident, allegedly instructing him to exchange seats with the driver. The police maintain that Rajesh Shah's intention was to shift the blame to the driver in an attempt to protect his son.
