Supreme Court Hearing

The Supreme Court will hear the matter related to the apology issued by Yoga guru Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna on April 30. Both individuals are expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Previous Court Action

During an earlier hearing on April 23, the Supreme Court criticized Patanjali for failing to display its apology prominently in newspapers. The court questioned the size of the apology relative to the full-page advertisements typically used by Patanjali to promote its products.

Following the court's order, Patanjali published a larger apology in newspapers. Prior to this, Ramdev and Balkrishna had submitted an unconditional and unqualified apology to the court regarding advertisements that made exaggerated claims about the effectiveness of products like Coronil during the pandemic.

Background of Case

In November 2023, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) filed a plea in the Supreme Court against Ramdev for criticizing modern medicine. The court subsequently directed Patanjali to cease advertising products that claimed to treat ailments prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
