Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has intensified his criticism of the Congress party, alleging that if it gains power in the Lok Sabha elections, it will implement an inheritance tax in the country. According to Modi, this tax would seize 55% of inherited wealth and distribute it to others.
Modi's accusations stem from comments made by Sam Pitroda, chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, who described inheritance tax, as implemented in some US states, as an interesting idea.
During a rally in Telangana, Modi asserted that wherever the Congress holds power, it exhibits five political symbols: false promises, vote bank politics, support for mafia and criminals, dynastic politics, and corruption.
He further criticized the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government, accusing it of imposing an RR tax (implying Revanth Reddy tax) that is crippling the state's economy.
Modi alleged that the Congress party engages in vote bank politics in Telangana, prioritizing its vote bank over the interests of others. He claimed that the party is attempting to ban Hindu festivals, such as Ramnavami processions, in Hyderabad to appease its vote bank.
The Prime Minister also accused the Congress of first allowing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to loot Telangana and now enabling the Congress to do the same.
Modi's remarks are part of his ongoing campaign against the Congress party ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He has repeatedly attacked the Congress, accusing it of corruption, incompetence, and neglect of the country's interests.
The Congress party has denied Modi's allegations, calling them baseless and an attempt to divert attention from the BJP government's own failures.
The issue of inheritance tax is likely to become a major talking point in the upcoming election campaign, with both sides presenting their arguments for and against its implementation in India.
