AAP Confirms Assault on Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, Promises Strict Action

In a shocking turn of events, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has confirmed that its Rajya Sabha member, Swati Maliwal, was subjected to an assault by the personal secretary of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The alleged incident occurred on Monday at the Chief Minister's residence, sending shockwaves through the party leadership.

Incident Details Emerge

According to AAP spokesperson Sanjay Singh, Maliwal visited the Chief Minister's residence on Monday morning to meet Kejriwal. While she was waiting in the drawing room, she was allegedly assaulted by Bibhav Kumar, Kejriwal's personal secretary. This is a highly condemnable incident, Singh declared at a press conference. Kejriwal has taken cognisance of it and will take strict action.

AAP Condemns, Demands Investigation

AAP leaders have expressed outrage over the incident, emphasizing Maliwal's significant contributions to the party and society. They have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and vowed to stand by Maliwal. Such an incident happening at the CM residence is extremely concerning, Singh added.

BJP Raises Concerns, Alleges Suppression

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, has raised suspicions about the incident and accused AAP of suppressing the truth. Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva alleged that political pressure was being exerted to silence Maliwal and downplay the assault.

Police Initiate Investigation

On Monday, police received a PCR call reporting an assault at the Chief Minister's residence. Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena confirmed that Maliwal had visited the police station but did not file a formal complaint. Meanwhile, police have initiated an investigation based on the PCR call.

National Commission for Women Intervenes

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has condemned the assault and announced that it will send an inquiry team to investigate the incident. The Commission has expressed concern over the safety of women and called for prompt action.

AAP Assures Strict Accountability

AAP has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of all its members. The party has assured that the alleged perpetrator will be held accountable for his actions and that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken.

The incident has cast a shadow over the AAP government, raising questions about the safety of women within the party and the accountability of those in positions of power.
