West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has affirmed her party's unwavering support for the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties, in its endeavor to establish a government at the center. This declaration comes after Banerjee's previous assertion that the INDIA alliance, which she played a pivotal role in forming and even named, has no presence in West Bengal, as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress are collaborating with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
Reiterating her earlier remarks, Banerjee emphasized the TMC's unwavering opposition to the CPI(M) and Congress in Bengal, accusing them of aligning themselves with the BJP. She launched a scathing attack on the BJP, labeling it a party of thieves and expressing confidence in its failure to achieve its ambitious electoral goal of winning 400 seats in the upcoming elections.
The BJP boasts of winning 400 seats, but the people recognize their empty promises, Banerjee asserted. The entire nation recognizes the BJP's true nature as a party of thieves. The TMC will extend unwavering support to the INDIA bloc in its efforts to form a government at the center. We will lend our support to ensure that our mothers and sisters in Bengal are shielded from adversity, and that those who rely on the 100-day job scheme can continue without hindrance.
Banerjee clarified that her support for the INDIA bloc is directed specifically towards the national level, emphasizing her party's commitment to repealing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and thwarting the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Uniform Civil Code (UCC) if the BJP government is voted out of power.
The discord among the INDIA bloc constituents has resulted in a three-way contest in West Bengal, pitting the TMC against the BJP and the Congress-Left alliance.
