Arrest of Delhi Aide in Assault Case

Bibhav Kumar, a close aide and former personal secretary to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was apprehended by the Delhi Police on Saturday in connection with the alleged assault of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Swati Maliwal.

Background of the Incident

The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by Maliwal, who accused Kumar of assaulting her on May 13th when she visited the Chief Minister's residence. According to her account, Kumar struck her repeatedly in the face and stomach, causing her significant pain and difficulty walking.

Police Investigation

Following Maliwal's complaint, the Delhi Police initiated an investigation and recorded her statement before a magistrate at the Tis Hazari court. As part of their inquiry, they also took Maliwal to the Chief Minister's residence to reconstruct the events of the alleged assault.

Counter-Complaint by Kumar

In a counter-complaint, Kumar has refuted Maliwal's allegations, claiming that she forcibly entered the Chief Minister's residence without authorization. He further asserts that Maliwal attempted to instigate turmoil and physically attack him, prompting him to object.

AAP's Defense

Delhi Minister Atishi, speaking on behalf of the AAP, has defended Kumar and accused Maliwal of being coerced into joining a conspiracy against Kejriwal by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Atishi alleged that Maliwal was blackmailed into making false accusations.

Viral Video Footage

On Friday, the AAP released video recordings from May 13th, depicting Maliwal engaging in an argument with security guards outside the Chief Minister's residence. In the footage, she threatens the guards with police action and challenges them to escort her out.

Separately, another video shows Maliwal being led away by security personnel from the residence. The AAP claims that this footage contradicts Maliwal's claims of being injured and suggests that she was staging a drama.

Ongoing Investigation

Investigations into the assault allegations against Kumar and the counter-charges raised by him are still ongoing. The Delhi Police are reviewing the available evidence, including video recordings, witness statements, and medical reports.

The outcome of the investigation and possible legal proceedings will determine the culpability of the parties involved and shed further light on the events surrounding the alleged assault.
