In a significant counterterrorism operation, the Gujarat Police apprehended four Islamic State (ISIS) operatives at Ahmedabad airport on Monday. The suspects, identified as Sri Lankan nationals, were allegedly planning attacks on Jewish targets based upon instructions received from their Pakistani handlers.
Upon their arrival in Ahmedabad from Chennai via Colombo, the operatives awaited further directives at the airport. However, their movements were closely monitored by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Gujarat Police, who subsequently apprehended them. During the arrests, law enforcement officials confiscated weapons believed to be of Pakistani origin.
This incident follows the arrest of 14 Pakistani nationals and the seizure of 86 kilograms of contraband drugs by the Gujarat ATS and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in April. The drugs, with an estimated value of Rs 602 crore, were seized off the Gujarat coast. Furthermore, the NCB has dismantled three drug manufacturing laboratories in Gujarat and Rajasthan, leading to the arrest of seven individuals. These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism, drug trafficking, and other illicit activities across the region.
