On Wednesday, the Juvenile Justice Board revoked the bail granted to a 17-year-old boy accused of fatally striking two individuals with his Porsche vehicle while intoxicated in Pune. The board mandated that the minor be placed in the Children Observation Centre.
Pune police had advocated for treating the juvenile as an adult during prosecution due to the severity of the crime. We filed a review application with the Juvenile Justice Board to have the juvenile tried as an adult and remanded to a juvenile detention facility, explained Amitesh Kumar, Pune Police Commissioner.
The Juvenile Justice Board communicated the operational order to us, and the juvenile accused has been sent to a remand home for 15 days, until June 5. The determination regarding his trial as an adult is still pending, the commissioner added. However, the final decision will be made based on the ongoing investigation.
Earlier on Wednesday, Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar announced that the 17-year-old responsible for the fatal crash involving two IT professionals riding a motorcycle would be ineligible for a driver's license until he reaches the age of 25.
Transport authorities in the state also disclosed that the permanent registration of the Porsche Taycan had been pending since March due to the owner's failure to pay a fee of Rs 1,758.
Following the registration of a new case under section 185 for driving under the influence of alcohol, the teenager was presented before a juvenile court.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Vishal Agarwal appeared before a Pune court, which remanded him to police custody until May 24.
