On Friday, a Bengaluru court granted the Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody of rape-accused Prajwal Revanna, a Karnataka MP and suspended member of the Janata Dal Secular (JDS), until June 6.
Revanna, the Hassan MP, was apprehended at Kempegowda Airport earlier in the day by a team of five female officers upon his arrival. Following his arrest, he underwent a routine medical examination at a city hospital before being presented before the court for a remand hearing.
Revanna had fled to Germany after sex tapes involving him went viral. He was apprehended by the SIT constituted by the Karnataka Police and taken to the CID office for interrogation.
Sources within India Today TV have revealed that the police are contemplating conducting a potency test on Revanna as part of their investigation. Additionally, the sex tapes have been forwarded to the Forensics Science Laboratory Division for examination.
The SIT is also attempting to identify the primary device used to record the explicit videos. They seek to determine which mobile phone was employed and will question Revanna about it.
According to police sources, the primary device has been destroyed. If investigators are unable to locate it, an additional charge of witness tampering will be brought against the JD(S) MP.
Less than a week after the release of the first of several videos depicting forced sexual acts, Revanna fled to Germany. He utilized a diplomatic passport, a privilege accorded to him as a Lok Sabha member, to depart India.
Revanna, who is seeking reelection from Hassan as an NDA candidate, returned to India a week later after releasing a video message stating that he would appear before the investigation team on May 31 and cooperate with the inquiry. He also maintained that the allegations against him were false.
