Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav accused authorities in multiple Uttar Pradesh districts of unlawfully confining opposition party members to their homes, impeding their involvement in vote counting. He shared surveillance video of the incident on his official social media account, demanding the immediate release of the detained individuals.
Yadav urged the Supreme Court, Election Commission of India, Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, and the Police Chief to intervene immediately. He cited instances in Mirzapur, Aligarh, and Kannauj, where district magistrates and police were allegedly engaging in unlawful house arrests of opposition workers.
The SP chief emphasized the peaceful conduct of all political parties and condemned the unethical actions of authorities that could incite public anger. He expressed hope for the removal of biased district magistrates and administrative officials and the maintenance of a peaceful atmosphere during vote counting.
Yadav's concerns highlight the alleged misuse of authority by district officials to restrict the participation of opposition party members in the vote counting process. The allegations raise questions about the impartiality of the electoral process and the need for fair and transparent procedures.
