Prime Minister Modi's Address at the G7 Outreach Session

In his address at the outreach session of the G7 Summit held in Italy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the crucial role of technological advancements, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), and highlighted India's commitment to the countries of the Global South.

Democratising Technology for Equitable Development

Modi stressed the imperative of making technology accessible to all segments of society. We must collectively strive to ensure that the benefits of technology empower all individuals, unlocking their potential, bridging social disparities, and augmenting human capabilities rather than limiting them, he asserted.

India's National Strategy on AI and the AI for All mission were cited as exemplary initiatives in this endeavor. Modi emphasized the need to democratize technology by breaking down barriers to access and ensuring its inclusive benefits.

Supporting the Global South

Modi voiced India's unwavering commitment to advocating for the concerns and priorities of the Global South on the world stage. He acknowledged the disproportionate impact faced by these nations amidst global uncertainties and tensions.

India's Climate Change Commitments

Regarding climate change mitigation, Modi reiterated India's proactive stance. He emphasized the fulfillment of all commitments made under the COP and the country's steadfast efforts towards achieving the target of Net Zero by 2070.

Lok Sabha Elections and Democratic Triumph

Modi alluded to the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, highlighting the seamless and transparent electoral process made possible by the extensive use of technology. He conveyed that his decisive victory in the polls reflected the triumph of democracy worldwide.

Bilateral Engagements

On the sidelines of the summit, Modi engaged in bilateral meetings with various world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Meeting with Pope Francis

Additionally, Modi greeted Pope Francis at the summit venue, expressing his profound admiration for the Pope's dedication to humanitarian service and global betterment. Modi extended an invitation for the Pope to visit India.

India's Participation in the G7

As an outreach participant, India's attendance at the G7 Summit marked Prime Minister Modi's fifth consecutive involvement. Italy, as the current Chair of the G7, extended the invitation to India, underscoring the growing partnership between India and the bloc.

G7 Summit Agenda

The summit, attended by leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union, focused on issues of migration, Indo-Pacific, and economic security, with the Russia-Ukraine conflict featuring prominently in the discussions.

Italy's decision to host the summit in southern Italy served as a symbolic gesture of attention to the concerns of the Global South. Additionally, leaders of several developing countries in Africa, South America, and the Indo-Pacific region were invited to participate in the outreach session.
